South Africa :The COVID-19 task team founded by the civil rights organisation AfriForum and the family farm network Saai in cooperation with Solidarity Helping hand, now launched food distribution projects together with Laeveld Agrochem. The task team today delivered nutritious Genesis instant meals to more than 1 000 needy families in Pretoria, Bloemfontein and Cape Town. The meals are sponsored by Laeveld Agrochem.

Genesis offers a range of functional food and drinkable products that are formulated among other specifically for people who suffer from malnutrition. It contains all 55 essential nutrients, 12 vitamins and five minerals of the daily dietary requirements. The instant meals are also slow release, which means that it will keep you satiated for up to six hours.

“AfriForum is excited to be able to work together with all these institutions and distribute a product that not only relieves hunger, but also provide people with essential nutrients. Especially children in their early developmental stages require these nutrients urgently. There have been many studies on the long-term – and often irreversible – effect that malnutrition has on children, and we want to prevent this with this project. We cannot allow children to cry, like in the concentration camps of the Anglo Boer War, ‘We are hungry!’,” says Ian Cameron, Head of Community Safety at AfriForum.

“Saai is proud to be part of this food distribution task team. We will continue to help hungry people in need without discrimination, despite governments efforts to centralise food distribution. It is heart-warming to how communities, businesses and organisations are working together to help the most vulnerable in our society,” says Francois Rossouw, CEO of Saai.

“Laeveld Agrochem sponsored a thousand 10 kg bags of the product to the COVID-19 task team in the fight against hunger and malnutrition as a result of the lockdown. We will also continue to support the task team with further donations of the product,” says Corné Liebenberg, Marketing Director at Laeveld Agrochem.
