“We are committed to reducing CO2 emissions globally and provide cleaner environments. Our vision is to have quality lubricants and oils and not focus on quantity,” said Hantie Spangenberg, Country Technical Manager at Shell SA during an interview with Farmers Review Africa at Nampo 2019.

“Our gas-to-liquids technology that turns natural gas into high-quality liquid fuels, base oils for lubricants, is one of our quality solutions in the oil sector”, added Spangenberg.

Shell’s gas-to-liquids (GTL) technology converts natural gas – the cleanest-burning fossil fuel – into high-quality liquid products that would otherwise be made from crude oil. These products include transport fuels, motor oils and the ingredients for everyday necessities like plastics, detergents and cosmetics.

“GTL products are colourless and odourless. They contain almost none of the impurities – sulphur, aromatics and nitrogen – that are found in crude oil. We continuously improve our GTL technology by enhancing our designs, refining our processes and adding new GTL products.” added Spangenberg.

Over the last 117 years, South Africans have entrusted Shell to make life’s journey more comfortable and convenient – a little better every day. The company’s illustrious history in the country is a testament to its commitment in building the nation, and as such, its pledge to support the agriculture sector will continue to grow.

In an environment where meeting demand, Shell offers total fluid management programs to farmers so that they maximise productivity and minimise costs.

There are two equally important elements to seizing this opportunity. The first is selecting the right lubricant or grease; the second is effective lubrication management.

When under pressure to reduce maintenance spend, farmers often look to cut their lubricant costs. However, while buying cheaper lubricants can achieve immediate cost savings, the detrimental effect on equipment can prove more expensive over time. The best value is found in competitively-priced, high-quality lubricants that deliver longer oil drain intervals and protect equipment under all conditions to help limit unplanned downtime and lower maintenance costs.

“Shell Lubricants works closely with customers to help identify opportunities of reducing maintenance costs and enhance equipment productivity by upgrading lubrication,” noted Spangenberg.”

Shell works with customers to help deliver lubricants total cost of ownership savings and help extract the best possible value from machinery. They offer support services through the lube expect, lube coach and online technical support.
