We are thrilled that OneFarm Share, our digital food relief platform, has won gold for the Social, Sustainable and Responsible Banking Award at the Efma-Accenture Banking Innovations Awards 2021. The Efma-Accenture Banking Innovation awards are global awards showcasing the best new ideas and practices transforming the banking industry.
In pursuing our ambitions of being a platform business, OneFarm Share was developed as a digital food relief platform brought about by “crisis meeting innovation” and finding a way of making a meaningful impact to our customers and their communities. It forms part of the OneFarm platform, a digital business-to-business platform to connect and provide services across the agricultural ecosystem through Lend, Protect, Grow, Trade and Share services.
In less than one year, OneFarm Share has provided over 20 million meals to over a million people and connected over 100 suppliers to the platform. Looking forward, we aim to:
- Increase food supply to certified recipients;
- Procure food at significantly less than market prices;
- Reduce high levels of food waste;
- Improve coordination in relief food distribution;
- Increase transparency and confidence in the donor system; and
- Increase market accessibility for local emerging and commercial farmers.
“We are extremely proud to receive this award as our goal for the platform was to safeguard the sustainability of farmers whilst also contributing to food security. Matching the tremendous needs of organisations that provide food relief with farmers of all sizes with excess supply, we are proud to see OneFarm Share living up to the expectations of contributing to driving sustainability of the agricultural sector and reducing hunger and malnutrition,” says Wendy Pienaar, Head of Client Ecosystem at Standard Bank
“As one of Africa’s largest banks by assets, It is our vision to become a leader in providing and creating innovative solutions that help to grow key sectors on the continent and solve for key development issues such as poverty reduction,” concludes Wendy Pienaar.
