As demand for poultry meat and eggs continues to rise across Africa, Belgian poultry equipment specialist Roxell is encouraging producers to embrace automation to improve efficiency, profitability and farm sustainability.

Speaking during VIV Africa 2026, Tom Van den Kerchove, Area Sales Manager at Roxell, highlighted the growing need for poultry farmers to modernise their operations in response to increasing market demand.

“With poultry consumption expected to continue growing in both the short and long term, farmers who want to expand their businesses will need to automate their production processes,” said Van den Kerchove. “Relying solely on manual feeding systems is no longer sufficient for farms aiming to increase capacity and remain competitive.”

According to Roxell, automation helps farmers address some of the key challenges associated with scaling poultry production, including labour efficiency, feed management and biosecurity.

The Belgium-based company develops feeding, drinking, heating and nesting systems for the poultry and pig industries and serves customers worldwide through an extensive distributor network. Across Africa, Roxell works with local partners in countries such as Zambia, Rwanda, Uganda and Nigeria, ensuring farmers have access not only to equipment but also to technical expertise and after-sales service.

At VIV Africa 2026, Roxell is showcasing technologies designed to help producers transition from labour-intensive farming methods to more efficient automated systems. A key focus is its range of automatic pan feeding solutions.

Van den Kerchove explained that automated feeding systems offer benefits far beyond labour savings. By delivering feed directly to the birds through the Roxell feeding pans, farms can significantly reduce feed wastage caused by spillage. In addition, keeping feed off the floor helps maintain better hygiene standards and reduces the risk of contamination.

Improved feed hygiene also contributes to stronger flock health. Birds consume cleaner feed, which supports better biosecurity practices and overall farm performance.

To underline its confidence in product durability, Roxell offers a 10-year regressive warranty on its feeding pan systems, a commitment that distinguishes the company within the industry.

Having participated in VIV Africa since its inception, Roxell sees significant long-term potential in the African poultry sector and remains committed to supporting the region’s producers as they modernise and grow.

“We believe strongly in the future of African poultry production,” said Van den Kerchove. “As the industry continues to develop, automation will play an increasingly important role in helping farmers produce more efficiently, sustainably and profitably.”
