As South African agriculture is confronted with increasing pressure from climate variability, rising input costs, market uncertainty and tightening margins, the NAMPO Harvest Day 2026 under the theme ‘Resilience through Innovation’ positioned itself as a platform where resilience was defined as the ability to adapt, improve decision making and strengthen profitability through practical innovation.

Against this backdrop Corteva Agriscience’s seed brands Pioneer and Pannar’s presence at NAMPO reinforced their commitment to integrated agricultural innovation by presenting solutions that combine advanced seed genetics, herbicide- and insect tolerance technologies and data driven decision-making tools to enable producers to respond more effectively to production risks and operational pressures.

The Harvest Day also provided a fitting platform to mark Pioneer’s 100th anniversary alongside the farming community it has served for generations. The centenary was not positioned only as a retrospective milestone but also as a continuation of a shared journey with farmers, where past progress in seed innovation and field performance meets the future demands of a rapidly changing agricultural environment.

Over the past century Pioneer has contributed significantly to the evolution of modern farming through continuous advances in hybrid seed development, improved trait integration and strengthened agronomic support. These developments have enabled farmers to achieve more consistent performance under variable climatic conditions while improving input efficiency and overall productivity. At NAMPO these achievements were framed within a forward-looking approach that emphasised data driven farming tools, refined genetics and integrated crop solutions.

Pannar’s presence at NAMPO underscored the message that innovation only creates value when it is practically applied at farm level and aligned with real production challenges. In a sector where volatility has increasingly become the norm, resilience depends on technologies that improve consistency, reduce risk and support long term profitability. Resilience in agriculture is no longer about reacting to challenges but about building systems that allow farmers to adapt proactively and remain profitable under pressure.

“Pannar’s approach combines advanced plant science with a detailed understanding of local growing conditions, ensuring that hybrid selection and crop planning decisions are grounded in practical farm realities. Innovation only delivers value when it is applied in the field and matched to real production conditions. Farmers operate under constant pressure, and they cannot afford uncertainty in key decisions. Pannar’s role is to provide them with reliable genetics, relevant agronomic guidance and practical support so that every decision strengthens performance and reduces risk,” said Lukas Meyer, Pannar Seed Business Manager.

A strong message that emerged from NAMPO is that technology alone cannot secure the future of grain production. “The added value to the Harvest Day lies in the collaboration across the agricultural value chain where science regulation and farmer realities intersect to deliver workable solutions,” stated Nick Goble, SA Seed Business Lead, Corteva. “Corteva regards NAMPO as an important platform to engage with farmers, researchers, private companies, public institutions and visiting government representatives.”

“This year, through the presence of Pioneer and Pannar at NAMPO, we once again made full use of this networking opportunity to strengthen collaboration, share innovation insights and deepen engagement with stakeholders across the agricultural value chain in support of more resilient and productive farming systems,” said Goble.
