Russia releases Egyptian oranges shipments

Russia has released Egyptian orange shipments seized in in Russian ports and also abolished the ban imposed on some Egyptian companies exporting citrus.

Al Sayed Al-Qusayr, Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation made the announcement and said this comes as a culmination of the efforts of the Ministry of Agriculture represented by the Egyptian Agricultural Quarantine, in coordination with the Egyptian Embassy, ​​the Commercial Representation Office in Moscow and the Agricultural Crops Export Council.

The Minister said the ban was lifted because Egypt met all the requirements and technical specifications required by the Russian agricultural quarantine. The agricultural quarantine held several urgent meetings with the Egyptian ambassador in Moscow and sent all the necessary technical data to negotiate with the Russian Consumer Protection Authority in order to reverse the decision to stop some shipments of Egyptian citrus and ban two Egyptian companies from exporting.

Al-Qusair thanked Ambassador Nazih Al-Najari, Egypt’s ambassador in Moscow, for his efforts in communicating with the Russian Consumer Protection Authority, and he also thanked the Egyptian commercial representation for their efforts to solve the crisis.

It is worth noting that Egypt ranks first in the world in the export of citrus fruits. The total volume of Egypt’s exports of orange by the end of 2020 amounted to about 1.6 million tons. Egypt’s Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation in 2020 managed to achieve an unprecedented boom regarding agricultural exports, reaching about 5.2 million tons, at a value of about US$2.2 billion.
