Pöttinger has had the Impress round baler since 2015. Now it has received an update and should also be interesting for contractors and large companies.

The Austrian agricultural machinery manufacturer Pöttinger has given its Impress round baler a facelift. It will be available from October.

Also under the new dress there were a number of improvements, as well as the introduction of a variety of new equipment options. Proven assemblies such as the pendulum pick-up, the lift-up rotor or the cutting unit with up to 32 blades have not been changed. Nevertheless, the Impress V models are now expected to produce even stronger, heavier bales than before by increasing the pressing pressure by 20%.

By expanding the options, Pöttinger wants to meet the demands of large companies and contractors. The basic range also includes two Impress 3130 F Master and 3130 F Pro fixed chamber presses, as well as three models of variable presses each.

The Impress 3160 and Impress 3190 are available in variant V without cutting unit, V Master with a 16-knife cutting unit and simple operating concept, or in V Pro version with 32-knife cutting unit, load sensing, ISOBUS operation and numerous automatic functions. The range is completed by three press winding combinations: Impress 3130 FC Pro fixed chamber with 1.3 m, Impress 3160 VC Pro vario chamber up to 1.55 m and Impress 3190 VC Pro vario chamber up to 1.85 m bale diameter. Bales with a maximum diameter of 1.5 m can be wound.

A central element is the completely newly developed binding unit. The pick-up and braking of the roller is no longer carried out via the core, but from the outside. Thus, rollers can be used regardless of the state of the core, the company explains.

The maximum width of the binder is 1,400 mm. The binding unit for the sheath film binding can be equipped with a braid binder. The roller is no longer braked electrically, but hydraulically. Setting values for mesh and foil are stored separately.

If you switch frequently between the net and the sheath film, a second roll holder for the binding can be ordered. Then there is no need to remove the heavy binder roll and only the medium has to be threaded. When changing the roller, the operator is now supported by an optional loading aid. The new binding unit is installed on all models. With the Pro models, Solo or Kombi, as well as Vario or fixed chamber, it can be upgraded to jacket film binding.

Equipment increases ease of use

An optional LED lighting package for all Pro models ensures optimum illumination of the relevant viewing areas such as the pick-up and the bale pulsion area or, if necessary, the changing table. For maintenance work or the change of consumables, switchable LED strips are installed under the panels.

The rapid cleaning of the machine with compressed air can now be carried out comfortably with the help of an optional hose reel and the supply of air from the compressed air brake system via an overflow valve. With humidity sensors, the shelf life of the crop can be conveniently assessed at the terminal.

With the new Impress Pro generation, Pöttinger is also introducing the new Power Control 3.0 control unit. This allows the direct selection of functions via slide keys or the input of parameters via the 5″ touch monitor. The surveillance can be supplemented by an optional camera system. A separate 10″ LCD can display up to four camera images in split screen.

Updates also for the wrap combinations

In addition to the changes to the presses, there are also improvements for the winding unit: for example, the pre-stretcher and the holding and cutting device have been revised. The changing table can now rotate the bale before and after the winding process in order to reliably press the film ends (jacket or wrapping film). This prevents loose film ends that interfere with transport or storage. In addition, excess air is squeezed out between the films, which has a positive effect on the silage quality.

The film magazines now hold 2 x 8 rolls of wrapping film or 2 x 6 rolls of wrapping film and 2 x 1 roll of sheath film. Together with the two spare roll holders for net or jacket film on the front part of the press, this stock is sufficient for long working days. In addition, further tyre options with a width of 620 and 710 mm are available for markets with permitted transport widths of over 3 m.

Product Care

The changes in the area of product care mainly include optimizations of bearing points, chain runs and lubrication. The rotor was given a freewheel to ensure smooth leakage in all conditions. The maintenance status is now monitored by a service counter, which informs the user about upcoming lubrication intervals. As a rounding detail, the drive with 1,000 rpm is now also optionally available for V and Master models.
