Smith Power Equipment will use Grain SA’s NAMPO Harvest Day, the premier agricultural show said to be the largest of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere, to unveil the CABIN version of its flagship Kubota U30-6s mini-excavator.

Amid rising input costs and incessant productivity challenges, farmers are expected to turn up in their numbers at this year’s NAMPO Harvest Day – scheduled for 16 – 20 May at Bothaville, Free State – to look for solutions to help them raise their agricultural productivity.

Among Smith Power’s notable exhibits at this year’s show will be the Kubota U30-6s CABIN, an add-on unit to the existing Canopy version. Based on Kubota’s understanding that a comfortable operator is a productive one, the CAB version comes standard with an air conditioned (A/C) environment with ample space and good visibility. The sealed cab provides a safe environment for the operator when working in dusty or noisy environments.

According to Michele Cicognani, National Product & Sales Specialist at Smith Power Equipment, the Kubota U30-6s mini-excavator fits the bill for both agricultural and construction contractors, as well as owner-operators seeking to execute their jobs in the comfort of a cab.

Due to its compact size and a 3-t operating weight, the machine is ideally suited to operations with certain weight constraints. It, however, punches above its weight with a high-power performance in a range of jobs that normally call for larger conventional machines.

A major talking point is the newly installed One Pump Loading System (1PLS) that improves operation and fuel efficiency. By combining the new hydraulic system with other Kubota technologies developed over the years, efficiency in a range of tasks such as drilling, lifting and traveling can be maximised.

“The 1PLS system adjusts the hydraulic pressure according to the load changes and reacts precisely to the movement of the control lever. Since the engine load is small, various inching and compounding operations can be undertaken without affecting the performance of the hydraulic flow. As a result, fuel economy on the Kubota U30-6s has improved by 5% compared to the previous model,” explains Cicognani.

On the back of an already growing market for mini-excavators, Cicognani says Kubota SA will further consolidate its market share with this unit, which takes comfort, productivity and efficiency to a whole new level.

“Kubota is the global leader in the compact excavator market. Locally, we have seen a steady year-on-year growth of our market share.  With the arrival of the U30-6s CABIN, coupled with the continued hard work of our sales teams and our extensive dealer network, we are confident that we will become the market leader in South Africa,” says Cicognani.

In addition, Kubota mini excavators are renowned for their excellent resale value, which is a key consideration for capital equipment buyers. Leveraging the Kubota quality, the range offers a long lifespan, with some local clients having already clocked 15 000 hours with units running on a general maintenance plan.
