Kenya, Burundi to sign agreements to boost bilateral cooperation

The governments of Kenya and Burundi are set to ink a bilateral agreements that will further enhance the cooperation between the two countries.

Burundi’s President Evariste Ndayishimiye is set to make a state visit in Kenya and will be the guest of honour on Tuesday’s Madaraka Day celebrations which will be held in Kisumu County. President Ndayishimiye and Kenya’s Uhuru Kenyatta will there after preside over the signing of bilateral agreements that will further enhance the cooperation between the two countries.

Strategic cooperation

They are also expected to hold talks, exchange views and discuss Kenya-Burundi strategic cooperation. The two countries cooperate in various areas of socio-economic and political development anchored on the Joint Permanent Commission for Cooperation (JPCC) signed in May 2008, as the main framework of bilateral cooperation.

The areas of cooperation within JPCC include: Agriculture and livestock development, Trade and investment, Air transport, Education and Research, Tourism, Security, Technical assistance in various fields of development and Political consultations.
