EOS Data Analytics (EOSDA), a global provider of AI-powered satellite imagery analytics, and TelOne, a state-owned telecommunications company in Zimbabwe have announced a strategic smart agriculture partnership.

The agreement will allow TelOne to assist the southern African country’s government, local farmers, financial institutions, and other stakeholders in the agriculture sector in creating value for communities and Zimbabwe’s economy.

The farming sector in Zimbabwe provides employment and income for two-thirds of the population and contributes at least 17% to Zimbabwe’s GDP.

However, despite this growth, the number of people with insufficient food consumption in Zimbabwe has grown by half a million in 2022.

As a result, empowering agribusinesses with the latest technologies is crucial to the country’s development and people’s well-being.

TelOne provides communications and digital solutions in Zimbabwe, and aims to facilitate a digitally enabled society in the country in all sectors of its economy, including agriculture.

EOSDA’s focus is GIS precision farming as the shared strategy to save time and resources, cut costs and losses, make profit and an impact, and utilising agriculture solutions to be a step ahead.

Founded in the US by Max Polyakov, the company operates worldwide, partnering with commercial and scientific organisations.

Speaking on the partnership this Tuesday, Brijesh Thoppil, director of strategic partnerships at EOS Data Analytics, said: “Humanity’s going through rapid changes that require us to make quick digital transformations. Since Africa is set to become a global hub for agritech, new developments in the African agricultural sector and Zimbabwe specifically can bring multiple benefits to the industry’s stakeholders and uplift the smallholder farmer communities. That’s why we are so excited about this strategic partnership with TelOne”.

Melody Harry, head of communications at TelOne, added: “TelOne remains committed to coming up with digital solutions that seek to facilitate a digitally enabled society by 2023.”

“With agriculture being a major contributor to the nation’s GDP, it is imperative that we come up with solutions for this key sector. By partnering with EOSDA, we bring a tried and tested state-of-the-art crop monitoring and remote sensing solution that will go a long way in assisting the nation to reach food sustenance”.

Within the cooperation with EOSDA, TelOne will get a professional-level subscription to the EOSDA Crop Monitoring, an online satellite-based precision agriculture platform for field monitoring.
