A total of sixty two (62) students have graduated from Taung Agricultural College, TAC. The
graduation ceremony was held at the college last Friday, 02 June 2023. It is for the first time the college confers 62 students with their Diploma in Agriculture in Irrigation since the reopening of the College from the devastation of Covid 19.
TAC is one of the two state owned agricultural colleges in the province and is the only institution in South Africa offering the diploma in Irrigation.
The North West Department of Agriculture and Rural Development MEC Desbo Mohono, congratulated the graduates and the staff at this college for their determination in ensuring that the institution continues to be the institution of choice when it comes to agriculture.
Of the 62 alumni conferred for 2023, thirty three (33) of them are females and twenty nine (29) are males.
MEC Mohono said these graduates did not only pass their modules but they are armed with special skills and knowledge in irrigation and that these skills distinguish them from other students in the country as Taung Agricultural College is the only college in the whole country that offers such qualification.
“We are proud of these students because they’ll go out there and make sure that they plough back on what we have taught them at the time where the country is facing a serious case of food insecurity.
The students are now ready to assist the farming community in irrigation farming practice and related issues,” said MEC Mohono Nelboy Sisinyi from Kuruman is one of the graduates who passed his diploma with distinction this year. “Obtaining this diploma with distinction was not easy, as at some point we were studying from and did not have the proper equipment and facilities to do so. But I strived to work hard to pass my diploma,” the jubilant Sesinyi expressed.
Sesinyi is currently working on his own farm based in Kuruman and wishes to take some students from college to do their applied experience on his farm.
MEC Mohono emphasized that it is important that graduates must now go out there and assist the country to produce more food.
Through the College Revitalization Program, the college will this financial year receive a facelift where it will be equipped with necessary infrastructure to position it as one of the best in the country.
