BMG has been honoured with the Special Commendation Exhibition Stand Award at the 98th South African Sugar Technologists’ Association (SASTA) Congress, recently held at the Olive Convention Centre in Durban.
The annual congress is a premier platform for sugarcane innovation, sustainability and industrial diversification, providing BMG with an opportunity to demonstrate its total process solutions for the sugar sector.
“This is a major industry event, and it allows us to showcase our ability to provide and support complete solutions across the sugar value chain,” said Rudzani Ramuageli, Head of Projects at BMG. “With over 52 years in business, we offer a broad range of engineering components and capital equipment, backed by deep technical expertise and close collaboration with our customers.”
At this year’s event, BMG highlighted its expanded power-transmission portfolio, including a new integrated turnkey drive solution designed to simplify the upgrading of ageing main crushing mill drives while ensuring long-term reliability.
The engineered system combines a Danfoss variable-speed drive, BMG electric motor, high-speed coupling, Dinamic Oil planetary gearbox and a multi-misalignment rope coupling to deliver controlled, high-torque power transmission for demanding mill applications.
A key feature is the multi-misalignment rope coupling that connects the planetary gearbox to the mill’s top roller. It accommodates lateral, axial and angular misalignment and movement of the top roller, while absorbing shock loads to protect critical drive components — a critical requirement in arduous sugar milling conditions.
Designed with modernisation in mind, the entire drive can be mounted on a purpose-designed sole plate engineered to suit existing layouts and foundation interfaces. This reduces civil modifications, minimises installation time and limits production downtime.
BMG supports the package with full lifecycle support — from site assessment and engineering to assembly, installation supervision and commissioning — enabling sugar mills to source a complete electro-mechanical drive solution from a single supplier.
BMG continues to work closely with stakeholders across the sugar industry — from growers to refiners — to improve production efficiency, minimise downtime and extend the service life of critical systems during harvesting, transport, milling and refining.
