With the apple picking season nearing its end, mid-May in picturesque Grabouw will be a hive of activity and not least because of the Tru-Cape supported Weekend Warrior event, a MTB designed for the whole family to be held at the Grabouw Country Club on May 14 and May 15.
With profits from the event earmarked to build more art classrooms for the Grabouw High School, the school plays a leading role in the event which is organised by Red Cherry Events.
Tru-Cape Fruit Marketing, owned by Two-a-Day in Grabouw and Ceres Fruit Growers in the Ceres valley also sponsored the previous incarnations of this event that ticks all the boxes for South Africa’s largest exporter of apples and pears. Tru-Cape Marketing Director Conrad Fick is a lifelong Grabouw resident and an alumnus of the school. “Tru-Cape supports events that are in our grower community, that focus on the health of the whole family and benefits the community,” he says adding that with each ticket purchased the school will be nearer to its goal of a new classroom. “We hope the impact of our sponsorship will be recognised in future leaders and mentors who make a point of continuously building on the heritage of community involvement for the future,” he says.
The venue is the Grabouw Country Club but riders will also be on the mountains, the nearby wine and fruit farms and alongside the dam. A great ride and time spent with the family, especially for those who are camping in the tents provided by Red Cherry Adventures is promised. “This is an event focussed on the whole family”, says Fick, “So each adult can bring one U14 for free. The Adult Entry is R850 which includes accommodation while additional children are R400 each. There are three routes – Bronze 10km, Silver 25km and Gold 50km – to cater for all fitness and ability levels.” Day rider tickets for either Saturday or Sunday are R300 each.
The camp village includes a comfy chill zone, live music, hot showers, flush toilets and plenty of food options while the children’s play area includes a mechanical bull, jumping castle and junior play area so there is plenty for the little ones to do while the older ones get stuck into some craft beverage options located in the chill zone.
