African Business and Olam International would like to invite you to a live dialogue focused on the Impact of COVID-19 on Africa’s Farming Communities.
Olam International carried out an in-depth survey on the impact of COVID-19 on the livelihoods of farming communities across Africa. The survey included 3,432 farmers across 18 origins, producing 9 different crops.
The survey analysed income levels, production, nutrition & food security as well as access to markets during the pandemic. African farmers were the most affected, when compared to other regions in the global south, with decrease levels of income, production and access to markets.
Reduced incomes
The survey highlighted that African origins are impacted most severely 68.3% of African farmers are indicating reduced incomes. The impact of COVID-19 on farmer communities across the continent poses major challenges going forward. The need to support and invest in smallholder farmers is paramount to protect livelihoods as well as increase overall agriculture output.
Join us for this African Business and Olam International live dialogue that will provide an in-depth analysis of the survey and present a roadmap to invest in smallholder farmers across the continent. The event is set to take place in July 7th.
