The government the Egypt has tasked the Ministry of Justice to draft a law confiscating illegal building and imposing fines on trespassers on agricultural land.
Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli tasked the Minister of Justice Omar Marwan and said this will prevent building encroachment on agricultural land. They will further confiscate the illegal buildings besides imposing huge fines on the violators.
“This new draft law also would include a punishment against the contractor who would be in charge of illegal buildings on the arable land. Any new violations on the arable land would be severely countered. Also, all the concerned state’s bodies would remove all [existing] violations, Madbouli said.

“The government, via the concerned ministries, would form monitoring committees against the violators, in implementation of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s orders. Violators would be deprived of all forms of subsides on basic commodities, bread, fertilizers, and etc. These actions aim at protecting the rights of generations to come. We, as a government, would not allow to lose any new agricultural spot,” he added.
Agriculture is a major component of the Egyptian economy, contributing 11.3% of the country’s gross domestic product. The agricultural sector accounts for 28% of all jobs, and over 55% of employment in Upper Egypt is agriculture-related. The country’s agriculture sector is dominated by small farms using traditional practices that do not meet international standards.
