In what seems as getting the cattle breeding and ranching industry in South Africa to the next level, a Zimbabwean rancher, on Saturday, set new auction record by purchasing a Boran bull at R8 million ((US$444 000).
In a head-to-head bidding contest that happened during Hurwitz Farming Production Auction held at the Bull Ring Auction House in Davel, Mpumalanga, Collins Tafireyi, a Boran breeder and rancher from Sinyo Boran Stud in Hwedza, Mashonaland East province, Zimbabwe, outbid his friend and neighbor, Rogers Sithole of Black Ox Farming.
This record-breaking purchase is a major milestone for Tafireyi, who has been in the specialized cattle breeding business for just three years.
The star of the auction, Lot 10 Cyclone, drew significant attention from bidders near and far
“This bull embodies the highest standard of breeding excellence, and I’m thrilled about the future opportunities it brings to Sinyo Boran Stud,” said Tafireyi.
The Boran cattle breeder specialises in the breeding, raising, and managing of the cattle which is known for its adaptability and superior genetics. It is highly prized among cattle ranchers, making Tafireyi’s achievement even more remarkable.

As the auction hammer came down at 11 am, concluding the auction on Saturday, the room buzzed with anticipation and excitement.
Indeed, the winning bid showcased Tafireyi’s commitment to excellence and marked a pivotal moment for the cattle ranching community in Zimbabwe and South Africa.
Rogers Sithole who also made significant purchases at the auction praised the high quality of the cattle available saying, “The cattle today were amazing. My friend Tafireyi acquired an exceptional bull, one of the best-bred I’ve ever seen. We’re committed to investing in superior genetics to enhance our herd.”
