COP28: Kenya Agriculture Innovators join $13B UAE-US govt co-led initiative, the Agriculture Innovation Mission for Climate

Kenya and Pan-Africa based Innovation partners will be joining the $13bn UAE-US government co-led initiative, the Agriculture Innovation Mission for Climate (AIM for Climate), the first global agriculture, food systems, and climate change coalition of its kind.

AIM for Climate accelerates collaborative action among government, non-profit, and private sector entities, to increase their self-financed investments in climate-smart agriculture and food systems innovations and solutions.

It is spearheaded by U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack and UAE Minister of Climate Change and Environment, Mariam Almheiri and was launched by the President of the United States at COP26.

$3b+ of the $13bn investments that have been accelerated to date, are from the private and non-profit sector, expedited efforts focused on agriculture and food systems innovations as listed here.

Some of the NEW innovators from Africa include:

  • $50M venture that identifies projects that are ready for investment and scaling globally that prevent food waste and loss
  • $500M project in regenerative landscapes, Pan-Africa
  • $500M Africa focused venture to boost agricultural productivity and nutrition with diverse, climate-resilient crops and healthy soils to strengthen food systems, Pan-Africa
  • $31M project by the only global organization that recovers and redistributes food surplus at scale and engages member food banks, Pan -Africa
