2021 has marked the dawn of a new era at Esigodini Agricultural College. Students are turning themselves into suppliers of quality food for their dining hall (DH). A new initiative backed by the Lectures, the seed companies with their expertise, the foundations for farming (FF) through its Pfumbudza concept and the government through its command agriculture. The synergetic efforts has helped the college to achieve this major agricultural breakthrough in the region that receives erratic rainfall that makes the region more susceptible to droughts over the years.
The college held two field days facilitated by three different seed companies namely Seedco, Agriseeds and Zadzamatura. Speaking on a field day Agronomist Ivan Craig who is the marketing director for Agriseeds said “Agricultural colleges should produce entrepreneurs who are ready to take the economy to another level through hands-on projects”, He urged the students not to fold hands after college waiting for an employment opportunity that may come in the unknown future.
The bumper harvest made the institution able to sustain the students without buying grain from other farms to supplement food. Apart from field crops the college is also doing massive horticultural projects that attracts the local community as well as proving it to be the real centre for Excellency.
The college has so far managed to sustain the surrounding areas with vegetables. While the animal section is working very hard in producing broilers. The college is working under the theme *we eat what we produce & we add what we subtract from the DH* which was formulated by the lectures to motivate the students. The progress shall see Zimbabwe achieving its vision 2030.The Lecturers pledged to continue supporting the students in their entrepreneurship projects. Recently the college received a tractor from the government to boost production. Zimbabwe shall be the bread basket for the entire Africa once again.

Indeed as agriculturalists we are looking forward to feed the nations with what we produce, looking at this climate change we encourage farmers to adopt the Pfumbuza/ Intwasa way of producing a bumper harvest. Let’s join hands and fight this enemy called “hunger”. Thank you to the leaders and supporters of this program
