Beta Bugs and FreezeM Partner to Bring High-Performance Black Soldier Fly Genetics to the European Market

Beta Bugs Ltd., a leader in Black Soldier Fly (BSF) genetics, and FreezeM Cryogenetics Ltd, developer of the patented PauseM® suspended neonate technology, are pleased to announce a new strategic partnership.  The combination of Beta Bugs’ superior genetics with FreezeM’s innovative production technology will deliver enhanced performance for commercial BSF producers.

Beta Bugs’s HiPer-Fly® is a selectively-bred Black Soldier Fly strain developed through more than 45 generations of genetic improvement.   HiPer-Fly®’s superior performance has recently been proven in independent trials.  FreezeM’s PauseM® technology is an innovative system providing suspended neonates, which represent a standardized biological input for BSF producers with extended shelf life and high survival rates.

Together, the two companies aim to provide commercial insect producers across Europe with a high-performance solution which will lead to improved productivity, operational efficiency and production reliability.

Under an agreement signed in July, Beta Bugs and FreezeM will establish a HiPer-Fly® breeding population at FreezeM’s production facility in Germany, where FreezeM operates a first-of-its-kind dedicated BSF breeding hub together with its partner Hermetia Baruth GmbH. This colony will form the foundation for producing HiPer-Fly®-PauseM® suspended neonates, enabling commercial evaluation and test marketing with selected BSF producers.

Together the companies will undertake a programme of controlled and commercial trials during the second half of 2026, to validate the HiPer-Fly®-PauseM® product under real-world production conditions. The trials will focus on evaluating biological performance throughout the commercial production cycle and demonstrating improvements in consistency, productivity and yield.  Full commercialisation will follow in 2027.

Dr Alan Tinch, Chief Executive Officer of Beta Bugs, said:

“Beta Bugs has made great strides in developing superior BSF genetics, as shown by recent comparative trials.  We are now delighted to be collaborating with FreezeM in bringing genetic improvements to the BSF market in a package which give producers reliable starting for neonates and allows the HiPer-Fly® to achieve its genetic potential for high yield.”

Yuval Gilad, Chief Executive Officer of FreezeM, added:

“We are excited to partner with Beta Bugs and to combine the strengths of two complementary technologies. The synergy between Beta Bugs’ advanced HiPer-Fly® genetics and FreezeM’s breeding expertise and proven PauseM® platform creates a consistent, reliable and scalable pathway for delivering high-performance biological inputs to commercial producers.”

The collaboration reflects both companies’ shared commitment to advancing industrial insect farming through innovation. As the BSF industry continues to mature, partnerships between specialist genetics providers and industrial biological production technology companies will play an increasingly important role in supporting commercial scale-up and meeting growing global demand for sustainable protein and circular bioeconomy solutions.
