MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company has expanded its intermodal offering in Cameroon, integrating the deep-water Port of Kribi, whose modern infrastructure enables it to accommodate vessels of up to 24,000 TEU, TG1] into a complete door-to-door logistics solution connecting Cameroon, Chad, and the Central African Republic to global markets. With four dedicated vessel services and direct connections to the Far East, India, and beyond, businesses across the region now have a faster and more cost-efficient gateway to international trade.

Cameroon plays a critical role as a regional trade hub, supporting the movement of goods into landlocked markets such as Chad and the Central African Republic. The World Bank estimates that approximately 79% of Chad’s imports transit through the Port of Douala. As trade volumes continue to grow, MSC has added Kribi to its network, offering customers a complementary alternative to the Port of Douala and improving the speed and reliability of cargo flows across the region. This strategic integration is further strengthened by Kribi’s expanding role as a modern deep-water gateway supporting larger vessel calls and more efficient trade connectivity.

Kribi is Cameroon’s only deep-water port and one of the few on the African continent capable of accommodating the world’s largest container vessels like MSC TÜRKIYE with a carrying capacity of over 24,000 TEU. The Kribi port handled recorded close to 470 ship calls in 2023 and has significantly increased capacity with its recent expansion with modern infrastructure designed to handle growing cargo volumes and support larger vessels. The port now offers over one million TEU in annual handling capacity, strengthening its role as a key gateway for trade in Central Africa.

As part of its expanded operations at Kribi, MSC deployed one of the world’s largest container vessels to the port, the first of its kind to call at a Central African port. Today, MSC operates four dedicated services calling at Kribi, including two mother services the Africa Express and India Africa Service (IAS) – linking Asia, India, and key global markets directly to Cameroon, alongside the Douala Express Feeder and the Gulf of Guinea Feeder Service supporting regional distribution.

From the quay at Kribi, MSC extends cargo movement seamlessly inland through its integrated road transport network. Dedicated trucking solutions connect the port to key destinations including Yaoundé, N’Djamena, and Bangui, ensuring consistent onward distribution across Central Africa. Local teams coordinate documentation, customs clearance, and real-time shipment updates, enabling a fully connected door-to-door logistics chain that keeps cargo moving efficiently from vessel discharge to final delivery.

This Kribi Port corridor marks the second phase of MSC’s Intermodal campaign, following the Côte d’Ivoire–Burkina Faso rail corridor executed earlier in 2026. Together, these initiatives underscore MSC’s focus on strengthening inland connectivity across key African trade routes. Further corridors are planned in South Africa and Kenya later in 2026, as the campaign continues to spotlight strategic corridors that enhance regional trade flows and support more efficient access to global markets.
