The international commission on irrigation and drainage (ICID) will organize its 5th African regional conference and the 72nd international executive council (IEC) meetings in Marrakech between November 23-30.
The event will be hosted by ICID’s Moroccan National Committee (ANAFIDE) in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Rural Development, Water and Forests.
The event aims to enhance the Moroccan experience in irrigated agriculture with ICID’s national and international scientific and technical network. It also seeks to develop South-South cooperation exchanges for sustainable development in Africa, the event’s organizer said in a joint statement.
Event theme
The conference will focus on the theme of “Sustainable Management of Irrigation for an Improved Resilience of Agriculture in Africa,” and it will cover a wide range of topics: water scarcity, irrigation, water management of irrigation schemes, and the impact of climate change.
The event’s program will revolve around numerous meetings and workshops in which young professional Africans and non-Africans will have the opportunities to meet with senior experts in their respective fields and benefit from their vast knowledge and experience.
ICID’s president also stated that “the event will dedicate a good part of the program to discussing African regional problems, as well as possible solutions and relevant approaches.” In addition to a strong Moroccan presence, the event will feature delegations from forty countries, five continents, and international organizations like the UN-affiliated Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the World Bank.
