The Africa Agri Tech 2020 officially opened this week. Visitors, conference-goers, and exhibitors enjoyed a fruitful day at Africa Agri Tech 2020 on Tuesday 18th when the event opened at the Sun Arena. Delegates enjoyed the insights shared at the Landbouweekblad Conference.
Among the attendees was John Deere. Speaking at the event was Tavonga Siyavora the Program manager of John Deere. Tavonga spoke on the evolution of technology in transforming Agricultural production.
African farmers are currently facing various challenges that are hampering their efforts in not just out- scaling their outputs, but also increasing their sources of incomes. Moreover, these are people who are wholly dependent on farming as a source of income. This, more often than not, is while considering other factors such as climate changes.
However, with the onset of technology, these farmers are not only able to increase their output, but also the quantity and quality of the same.
John Deere as a world leader in providing agricultural advanced products and services committed to the success of customers whose work is linked to the land will use this platform to showcase its precision agriculture capabilities and provide an analysis that have an impact on technology trends in agriculture industry based on its global expertise and footprint.
Since opening offices in South Africa 1838, John Deere officially opened distributor outlets in 1930 and have since established approximately 200 of these. The farmers, in turn, have been able to access equipment as well as aftersales services. This has gone a long way towards increasing output. Later on in 2005, John Deere launched the GPS software technology which is incorporated into most of their machines.
AAT2020 involvement is part of John Deere’s strategy to drive green revolution and become a leading Agriculture Innovation and Technology provider in Africa.
